New Spaceworker Gwen Kohl

untitled-8972

Spaceworks would like to welcome Gwen Kohl, as the newest member of our team! Gwen will be working directly with Spaceworks’ entrepreneurs as our Creative Enterprise Program Coordinator.

Gwen is a catalyst, entrepreneur, and combiner of things. As Creative Enterprise Program Coordinator, she facilitates training and support for small business owners and entrepreneurs with plans for long term creative/innovative businesses that benefit Tacoma’s community.

A self-described nomad, she’s been in Tacoma since 2014 and is excited to join the Spaceworks team. “I’m looking forward to working with entrepreneurs to help grow Tacoma as a thriving destination city. There’s a strong creative bent and a fierce pride in the city already, and I think Tacomans have a lot to offer the world.”

Gwen spent her post university years playing in the woods. She’s led trail crews with students and adults all over the country, exploring some of nature’s hidden wonders and engineering steps and bridges to blend with the natural landscape. As an Outdoor Instructor with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, she was a white water raft guide, raptor specialist, and facilitator of learning through hands-on inquiry. She’s built, and maintained, curriculum for learners of all ages.

As an entrepreneur, Gwen has been involved in many start-ups and owner-operator endeavors. She believes in patience, flexibility, and support networks. Goals are the end prizes of mazes – there are many paths you can take, and some will dead-end while others will take you through.

Gwen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Science, with an emphasis on ecology and sociology. She grew up in Massachusetts, went to university in New Jersey, and has lived/worked/studied across the United States and abroad in Nicaragua, Belize, Peru, Chile, and Australia.
