Destiny City Comics provides a new, fun place to buy comics in Tacoma’s Stadium District!

STOREFRONT
Destiny City Comics will be open for business Wednesday, October 1. More information about the store can be found at destinycitycomics.com

This October, a new business will appear in the Stadium District: a comic book store is getting ready to open next door to King’s Books on St. Helens Avenue. Destiny City Comics will offer the latest in comics, acclaimed graphic novels, and works by local creators. On opening day, comics like Thor #1 will be available, a new series by Marvel featuring a female Thor. There will also be a selection of graphic novels like Batman: the Long Halloween, the Walking Dead, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Plus, works by local cartoonists like members of the C.L.A.W. (Cartoonist’s League of Absurd Washingtonians).

“King’s Books is terribly excited to have a comic book store as a neighbor,” says bookstore owner sweet pea Flaherty. “For years we have had both a Graphic Novel Book Club and hosted C.L.A.W., so it’s a natural fit for the space. Destiny City Comics will enhance the literary landscape by offering a wide selection of comic art forms that will bring more appreciation for the craft to Tacoma.”

To make it easier for customers to enjoy even more books, Destiny City will offer 15% off all graphic novels every day and a subscription service featuring a sliding scale discount.

Destiny City Comics’ opening will include a Halloween ComicFest party on October 25. This event will feature an assortment of free comics, including the popular Afterlife with Archie, Scooby Doo Meets Batman, Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, and more.

About Destiny City Comics:

Michael Fitzgerald, store owner, plans to make Destiny City Comics a destination in Tacoma, “I want to offer a service that inspires and feeds the imaginations of readers of all ages and backgrounds.” The goal is to build a base of loyal customers and to seek continuous growth through fun and distinctive events hosted at the shop.

The store owner spent his high school years working part-time at Read More Comics near Tampa, Florida. Fitzgerald worked as an editorial intern at comics and entertainment magazine Wizard in New York, as a marketing intern for Fantagraphics Books, Inc. in Seattle, writes about comics and Tacoma culture for Post Defiance, and hosts regular trivia nights at local hangouts Dorky’s and the Mix. Fitzgerald graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington Tacoma this June.

As a member of the creative enterprise cohort with Spaceworks Tacoma, Fitzgerald evolved the concept of Destiny City Comics from a rough idea to a solid plan.
