Kate Monthy is an educator, dancer, entrepreneur, and Tacoma native and enthusiast. Kate is thrilled to work as the Development Coordinator for Spaceworks. “As a Tacoman, I have long appreciated Spacework’s effort to bring art, vibrancy and a community presence to the visual landscape of Tacoma. I am fortunate to be a part of this team to sustain and grow the already blossoming future of Spaceworks. ” As Development Coordinator she works to bring diversity and innovation to funding, community giving and sponsorship to Spaceworks.
As an educator, Kate is an Adjunct Artist at the Tacoma School of the Arts teaching Ballet, as well as an instructor for Tacoma City Ballet. Kate has taught classical and contemporary ballet for 15 years. In her professional career as a dancer, she danced for Zoe|Juniper (Seattle) Eryc Taylor Dance Company (NYC) and Spectrum Dance Theater (Seattle). She has toured nationally and internationally with Spectrum Dance Theater under the Direction of Donald Byrd. Also through Spectrum she participated as a U.S. Diplomat for Dance Motion U.S.A. teaching and performing internationally in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Kate received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Pacific Lutheran University, as well as her Paralegal Certificate from the University of Washington. After graduating, she founded and directed MLKBallet, a tuition free ballet school in Tacoma. She continues to curate dance events in Tacoma such as MOVE! and Ten Tiny Dances.
