Launching your dream business takes grit, but you don’t have to do it alone.
The first time I really fell in love with Spaceworks was at the inaugural Entrepreneur Success Workshop this past June. Fifty budding entrepreneurs sat in a room at the Tacoma Public Library (Moore Branch) and Gwen, our business incubator coordinator, invited everyone to introduce themselves. One by one, they stood and shared their names and their proposed businesses. Their voices carried a mixture of pride, excitement, apprehension, and maybe a bit of fear. For some, it felt like they were voicing a dream aloud for the very first time. I still get a little teary thinking about that moment, when I realized that Spaceworks gets to steward people’s dreams. What a privilege. What a responsibility.
Five months later and we’re ready to launch our third workshop, this time in Hilltop at the Allen Russell Conference Center. With the Tacoma Link Extension arriving by 2022, we know that Hilltop businesses and community members will be impacted. Our hope is that trainings like the free Entrepreneur Success Workshop can 1) help existing businesses strengthen and ready themselves for the construction, and 2) for local entrepreneurs to consider launching a business in their own communities.
What can you expect in a free four-hour workshop? Gwen, along with a panel of top-notch business coaches, will introduce you to the basics of running a business and managing your finances, as well as clarifying and focusing your ideas. Through small group discussions, hands-on activities, and worksheets, you’ll walk away with a personalized action plan to help move your dreams closer to reality.
Workshop participants are also then eligible to join our formal incubator program, which includes the popular and rigorous 12-week Business Planning Cohort. You’d be joining a roster of more than 140 businesses that we’ve helped support over the past eight years.
